Number recognition

Once you have read the instructions below:

Begin Number Recognition

Purpose of Experiment

Is it simpler to recognise a regular pattern of 5 dots as 5 dots rather than an irregular pattern of 5 dots as 5 dots?
Does the time you have to see the pattern make a difference?
Do you make more errors with larger numbers?

Instructions

You will need 'Flash' installed to run this experiment. At the start you need to enter your LEA and School codes (if you are unaware of these please contact us and we can inform you of them) and you will be asked for your age and gender.
(Get Flash)

If you are new to this experiment you may want to have a trial run to see what it is all about. Click Trial Run to have a go - no data will be recorded.

When the experiment is launched from the 'Begin Number Recognition' link below you will have a choice of 6 slightly different versions of the test. You can choose to do 1 or more versions.

Example

3-12 0.5s repeating P U

3-12 refers to the number of dots which may come up on the cards

0.5s means each card will be shown for this length of time in seconds

distinct means each card is shown only once
repeating means each card may be shown more than once or not at all

P - the number of patterned cards correct
U - the number of unpatterned cards correct

When you have completed the version/s you wish to do, close the pop up box and your data will be recorded. To retrieve your data click Retrieve data.

To retrieve your data see below.

Good luck!
